This programme prepares supervisors to oversee street works legally and safely on the public highway under the New Roads and Street Works Act 1991 (NRSWA). It combines classroom instruction with practical, hands-on assessment covering the supervision of work to locate and avoid underground apparatus, the planning and monitoring of temporary traffic management, the safe control of excavation, and the checking of reinstatement across multiple surface types. Delegates learn to brief and direct operatives, verify compliance with statutory requirements and codes of practice, identify and correct unsafe or non-compliant work, and take responsibility for the safety of their team and the public. On successful completion, delegates are registered on the Street Works Qualification Register (SWQR) and issued with an ID card listing all achieved supervisor units, valid for five years. Assessment across the units typically blends written questionnaires with supervised practical demonstrations of supervisory competence on site..
