  • Equipment Required - Clean and in good working order PPE: fluorescent long-sleeve jacket, overalls/work clothes (shorts are not allowed), gloves, safety boots, eye protection, ear protection, hard hat, respiratory protection APF20/FFP3 or higher.

This programme prepares operatives to work legally and safely on the public highway under the New Roads and Street Works Act 1991 (NRSWA). It combines classroom instruction with practical, hands-on assessment covering location of underground apparatus, temporary traffic management, safe excavation, and reinstatement across multiple surface types. On successful completion, delegates are registered on the Street Works Qualification Register (SWQR) and issued with an ID card listing all achieved units, valid for five years. Certification is issued through the Scottish Qualifications Authority (SQA). Assessment across the units typically blends written questionnaires with supervised practical demonstrations.
